Jesse and I had a good day today. It was gray and raining when I woke up this afternoon. Last night, instead of watching fireworks, Jesse and I watched The Stepford Wives (the new one) and then Ghostbusters. I'm not sure what time Jesse got up, but I first woke up around 1.30 and I stayed in bed for another half-hour or so. I got up and we had breakfast. I worked on my crocheting while Jesse played his MySpace games, and then we went grocery shopping. We were going to make stir fry for dinner, but as we were perusing the meat selection at Food Lion, I was hit with a sudden inspiration. So I made cheese sauce (white cheddar), broccoli, and minute steaks. Jesse made baked potatoes and we had cantaloupe, too. It was very satisfying. It isn't often that Jesse and I do a full meal the way Mom and Dad do, so I was very proud of us. Plus it tasted delicious. Not to toot my own horn, but my cooking is really coming along. I had to call Dad at one point because the cheese was congealing oddly, but after that it went pretty smoothly. I like making food Jesse likes, which reminds me that I want to make more chocolate chip cookies tomorrow.
Oh, and we picked up Sheets on our way home from shopping. She stayed with us for dinner and Independence Day (Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum in one movie, zomg). We took her back to Mark's after that and then came home and watched Clue, which remains on of the funniest movies I have ever seen. No matter how recently I've seen it I always laugh aloud. I almost choked at one point. Truly wonderful. They really just do not make movies like that anymore.
Watching Ghostbusters reminded me--again--how awesome Dan Akroyd is. I need to add the following to my collection (in no particular order): Spies Like Us, Sneakers, Evolution, and North. And I'm pretty sure that I have my own copy of Trading Places at home, so I should make sure that gets sent here before New Years. Tim Curry is another fabulous actor. He's one of the best parts of the 1993 Three Musketeers. Although Charlie Sheen and Oliver Platt put in fabulous performances, as does (of course) Keifer Sutherland, although I think he doesn't hold a candle to Van Heflin. Michel Wincott is fabulous in the 1993 one, too, mostly just because he has that voice. He does one of the bad pirates in Treasure Planet and he has bit parts in The Crow, The Count of Monte Cristo, and Alien: Resurrection. And apparently he plays Guy of Gisbourne in the Costner Robin Hood, which is perhaps reason enough to see it again. Anyway, enough movie trivia.
It was a good day. As Jesse and I were getting ready for bed (I couldn't sleep and got up again), he looked at me and asked, "Did you have a good day?" And I emphatically answered, "Yes!" He smiled at me and pressed, "Really, really?" "Really, really," I told him. I asked him if he'd had a good day, too, and he said "Yeah, I did." It was very nice. We had a good day together and didn't fight or anything. It would have been perfect if I could have fallen asleep next to him right then. I was so tired, but I couldn't sleep. So I got up, made some Cream of Wheat, and wrote this entry. I think I'll kill a little more time and then try to go back to sleep.
Good night.
